1. Who we are

2. The short version

We run a reading site, not a data business. We do not use analytics, advertising networks, tracking pixels, social media widgets or embedded third-party content. We set no cookies. We do not sell or share your personal information, and we never have.

What follows is the detail — including the data our hosting provider records automatically, which every website has whether it says so or not.

3. Information collected automatically

Our host, Vercel Inc., records server logs for every request. Those logs include your IP address, the requested URL, HTTP status, referring page, browser type and operating system, and an approximate region derived from the IP address. This is how the site is delivered and kept secure; it is not linked to any profile and we do not use it to identify you.

Log retention is set by the hosting plan. We do not export these logs, do not feed them into any analytics tool, and do not combine them with other data.

Images are delivered from Cloudflare R2 through our own subdomain. Cloudflare processes the request data needed to serve the file, on the same technical basis.

4. Information you give us

Contact form. If you write to us, the form is processed by Formspree, Inc., which forwards the message to our inbox. We receive the name, email address and message you enter. We use it to answer you and for nothing else.

Email. If you email us directly, we keep the message as long as needed to handle your request.

5. Local storage in your browser

We set no cookies. We do store two small preferences in your browser’s local storage: your light or dark theme choice, and whether you have dismissed the regional site suggestion. Both stay on your device, are never transmitted to us, and can be cleared in your browser settings at any time.

6. Affiliate links

Some links to products are affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Clicking one takes you to the retailer, where their own privacy policy and cookies apply — we receive no personal information about you, only aggregate reports about whether purchases occurred.

Affiliate revenue does not influence our scores or rankings. Every article that contains affiliate links says so at the top, not just here.

7. Who we share information with

Only the service providers named above — Vercel for hosting, Cloudflare for image delivery, Formspree for the contact form — and only to the extent needed to run the site. We do not sell, rent, or share personal information with anyone for their own marketing, and we do not disclose it to third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising.

8. Reviewing and changing your information

Because we do not operate accounts, there is normally nothing stored about you to review. If you have written to us and want the correspondence corrected or deleted, email info@gutenwords.com and we will handle it.

9. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

California law asks sites to disclose how they respond to Do Not Track browser signals. Our answer is straightforward: there is no tracking here for such a signal to switch off. We do not follow you across sites and no third party collects behavioral data through this site. For the same reason, a Global Privacy Control signal changes nothing — there is no sale or sharing of personal information to opt out of.

10. Children

This site is written for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us information, email us and we will delete it.

11. Where your data is handled

We are based in the United States and our service providers process data in the United States. If you are reading from outside the US, your information is handled there.

12. Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect or which providers we use, we update this page and the date at the top. Substantive changes are noted here rather than made quietly.
